the questions
1. What’s school spirit?
School spirit is enthusiasm for the activities and sports our school offers: for baseball, for football, for the jazz and marching bands, for the speech and debate team, for academic contests. It is all about the RED and BLACK!
2. What defines a Bearcat?
The informal definition of a Bearcat is a person that fights or acts with force or fierceness. Dexter Bearcats are proud, fierce fighters in competitions and stand tall no matter the challenge.
3. What are some of your activities as a Bearcat?
In my years at DHS, I have been a member of the National Honor Society, the Top 10% of my class for 4 years, the baseball team for 4 years, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for 4 years, the DHS Jazz Cats and Marching Band for 4 years, and the Future Teachers of America for 2 years. During the summer, I play baseball, play the drums for some summer performances, umpire for Dexter Park and Recreations, lifeguard, and mow yards.
4. What makes a Bearcat special?
Pride. Standing tall.
5. What’s the best thing about DHS?
The best thing about DHS is the balance we have in our student body. We have students who are musically-, athletically-, and academically-talented. There are students who are involved in community and political organizations. We have students who can rebuild engines and cook like an Iron Chef. And all of these students walk the halls of DHS, and you can learn a lot from each of them if you get to know them. They all contribute to the balance.
6. What are your plans after graduation?
I plan to attend Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas. I have received their 4-year Academic Scholarship and been admitted to the Harding Honors College. I plan to tryout as a walk-on for the Harding Bison baseball team.
7. When I grow up I want to be …?
I am still working on this! I hope to have it figured out in about 4 years.
8. Who’s your hero?
I guess I could say the name of one hero like Indiana Jones, James Bond, Winnie the Pooh, the Terminator, or Mahatma Gandhi, but I believe my heroes are my friends—those people who stick by me no matter what and support and guide me through choices and decisions. My friends are the heroes I admire the most; they have made the largest impact on me during my 4 years at DHS.
9. What’s your favorite word?
“Opportunity” is a favorite word: never refuse an opportunity and take full advantage of every one you get.
10. What words of wisdom do you have for younger Bearcats?
The words of wisdom I would pass along to younger Bearcats would be to get involved in activities and/or sports, attend school and community events, surround yourself with good friends who let you be yourself but challenge you to become better, respect your teachers, and never be afraid to try something new.
